So interwoven is Greece with its islands and its seas that even locals forget the beauties of its mainland. As for foreign travelers, most of the times they are completely unaware of its existence. 26-year-old cinematographer Stavros Ladikos has recently traveled to Epirus, the northwestern region bordering with the Ionian sea, in order to capture a less-travelled Greece and make its landscapes known to Greeks and foreigners alike.

During his 10-day trip, he visited the city of Ioannina – the capital of the region’s biggest prefecture by the same name – the stone-built village of Ligiades and some of the picturesque Zagori villages (also known as Zagorochoria), like Kipoi, Dilofo, Monodendri and Vradeto. With the help of a Phantom 3 Professsional drone and a Panasonic GH4 camera, he made a small tribute to a land rich in history and even richer in natural beauty: imposing mountains, breathtaking gorges, winding rivers, secretive villages and masterfully-crafted bridges.
